About us

Forward Energy Sdn Bhd (“FESB”), incorporated in 2003, is founded by Dato’ Azmi Abdullah (pictured), who started his career in the electricity supply industry at the Generations and Projects Department of the National Electricity Board (now known as Tenaga Nasional Berhad) in different capacities (as a Technician and later an Engineer) from 1980 to 1992.

He was with various Independent Power Producers (“IPP”) from 1992 to the present, in different roles during the development phase until completion. While serving the IPPs, he negotiates various agreements for the IPPs namely the Power Purchase Agreement, Fuel Supply Agreement, Engineering Procurement Construction Contracts and Financing Documentation.

Equipped with experiences he acquired in the Government and the Corporate Sector, he formed his own companies in 2003 to develop power projects on an IPP or Build & Transfer basis and promoting green technologies in the energy sector. He is currently spearheading his own companies as the Executive Director of Forward Energy Sdn Bhd and Managing Director of A&Z Power Consult Sdn Bhd.

His venture brings him to countries from South East Asia to the Middle East.

He is also active in social work.

Projects – Malaysia

Forward Energy through its Principal Partners and Associates has undertaken numerous power projects in Malaysia and overseas, notable amongst them are as follows:


  • The development of a RM5 Billion Coal Fired Power Plant project consisting of 3 x 700MW located at Tg. Bin, Pontian, Johor
  • Scope of Works:
    Consultancy Services for Transmission Lines Facilities
    Supply of Supervisory Manpower for Transmission Line Construction


  • 350MW Gas Fired Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) owned by Prai Power Sdn Bhd located in Seberang Prai, Penang. The Plant has the largest single shaft GE9FA Gas Turbine
  • Scope of Works:
    Management & Engineering Audit for year 2005

Projects – Middle East

  • Forward Energy started exploring for opportunities in the Middle East since February 2005

  • Has since engaged in co-operations with local companies in the United Arab Emirates, and secured opportunities in the Republic of Yemen. In 2006, Forward Energy started exploring the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and has collaborations with local partners and associates to establish business cooperation in the Middle East in the fields of:

    • General Infrastructure projects
    • Power, sewage and water projects
    • Dedicated power for property development Township
    • Consultancy services


Projects – South East Asia

Proposing solutions to Malaysian Utilities on the current shortages of electricity in some of the states of Malaysia through the supply of quick mobile power plants and used or refurbished power equipment on a full turnkey basis (Engineering, Procurement and Construction).

Currently pre-development stage of a 400MW Coal Fired Mine Mouth Power Project in Kalimantan to deliver cross border capacity of 300MW into Sabah, Malaysia and balance 100MW for local use in Kalimantan.

Developing a dedicated 30 to 40MW Co-Generation Facility to provide electricity and chilled water (for air-conditioning) 365 days a year for a Tier IV Data Centre. Forward Energy will also provide operations and maintenance for the Data Centre Co-Generation Facility.

Through Forward Energy Bangladesh Limited, pursue new power related projects and acquire completed power project assets to expand the profile of the Company.
